Route Description for Ottery Saint Mary Woodland Walk
Even though the Ottery Saint Mary Woodland Walk is a fairly straightforward adventure, there are a few elements along the route that could hinder travel for less-mobile walkers, including several descents and ascents that range from gradual to steep. Take your time through these areas and make sure to wear proper walking boots for the best footing. Additionally, certain sections of this route can be a bit muddy in the spring or after a good period of rainfall. Water-resistant walking boots or wellies are recommended for these conditions.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way west along the trail through the forest before turning left at the junction to continue on to the south. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the woodland setting, as you make your way through the mature trees and traverse the undulating terrain of East Hill. After looping through this southern portion of the route, you will descend the hillside and cross over a small stream before making your way back uphill on the opposite side. From here, you will follow the path to the northwest to pass by Chineway Farm and meet up with the main trail, eventually following it back to the trailhead where you began.

To reach the trailhead for the Ottery Saint Mary Woodland Walk from the town of Ottery Saint Mary, drive southeast on Broad Street and keep straight for the next 4.7 km. Turn left here and continue on for 0.8 km to arrive at the starting point of the walk.
