The Lindley Hut and Cooper Creek Road Hike is a fairly laid back outdoor experience near Ashcroft, Colorado that will lead you into the mountains along an old mining road. While out hiking the trail, you will follow along Cooper Creek Road as it winds uphill towards Lindley Hut to offer some splendid views across the valley and its mountainous surroundings. Although this route does feature a moderate amount of elevation gain, it is still easy enough for a fun family adventure.
Route Description for Lindley Hut and Cooper Creek Road Hike
For those who want to get out into the mountains but aren't concerned with completing an overly challenging or difficult to navigate route, the Lindley Hut and Cooper Creek Road Hike will be a great option to experience the natural beauty of the Elk Mountains. Setting out from the car park, you will make your way along Cooper Creek Road to the southeast and cross over Castle Creek, following the road alongside the water until you reach the edge of the forest. Here, the road will begin to climb more steeply uphill, as you gain elevation and increasingly more scenic views of the valley. After winding your way up the forested mountainside, you will find a path branching off to the right. Follow this for a short detour to cross over Cooper Creek and visit Lindley Hut, a popular place for overnight stays in the area. From here, you will head back to the road and continue making your way up the hill for a short distance while enjoying the stunning views of the valley landscape and surrounding mountains, before heading back down the road along the same route to return to the trailhead.Getting to the Lindley Hut and Cooper Creek Road Hike Trailhead
