Three Lakes Trail

The Three Lakes Trail is an amazing family-friendly adventure in the Elk Mountains of Colorado that will take you around several charming lakes with mountain views. While out hiking the trail, you will meander along the shores of Lost Lake Slough, before climbing uphill past the edge of Lost Lake and Dollar Lake. This is a fantastic hiking route through the forest that is perfect no matter your age or skill level.

Route Description for Three Lakes Trail
Whether you are a beginner hiker looking to explore the wilds of Colorado or a young family wanting to get out and experience the outdoors, the Three Lake Trail is a spectacular hiking route that will allow you to truly take in the natural beauty of the Elk Mountains.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will follow along the edge of Lost Lake SLough in a southwestern direction as you take in the stunning views across the water. As you continue through the woodland landscape, you will climb slightly uphill to arrive at the second lake of the day, Lost Lake.
After looping around this peaceful body of water, you will continue on to the southeast to arrive at the cascading waters of Middle Creek Falls. From here, take some time to enjoy the beautifully scenic views of the surrounding mountains through the tree cover, before arriving at the quaint shores of Dollar Lake. At this point, you will turn to the north and follow the trail downhill to the edge of Lost Lake Slough, where you will wrap up your journey on the Three Lakes Trail.

The starting point for the Three Lakes Trail can be found at the Lost Lake Campground along the shores of Lost Lake Slough.
