Silver Spring Lakes

The trail to Silver Spring Lakes is a 7.6 km out-and-back hiking route that will take you through beautiful stretches of forest and dramatic cliff faces to reach the deep blue waters of the lakes. A popular summer spot for cliff diving, the area around the lake makes for a great hiking route with mixed terrain that is accessible for both casual and experienced hikers. For those looking for a longer route, continue past the second lake to visit two smaller lakes a little bit farther along the trail.

Route Description for Silver Spring Lakes
Hiking to Silver Spring Lakes is the perfect way to spend a hot summer day in the Fernie area. This easy-to-navigate trail sets out through a beautiful stretch of forest before the terrain opens up into a scenic valley surrounded by steep hills on either side and dramatic cliff faces. These cliffs are a popular destination for plenty of adventurers that choose to dive off the edge and into the refreshing waters below. The trail passes beyond the first lake and continues to a second nestled right in the elbow of the valley. While the route ends here, those that want to extend their hike can by continuing a bit farther to reach another two scenic (albeit smaller) lakes. After taking in the beautiful views of these hidden lakes and going for a quick dip, make your way back along the same trail to return to the trailhead.
Getting to the Silver Spring Lakes Trailhead
To reach the parking area for the Silver Spring Lakes from Elko, head northeast on River Forest Service Road for 2.8 km, and you will find the parking area on the right.
