Route Description for Hope-Nicola Valley Trail
The Hope-Nicola Valley Trail is a 5.6 km loop through Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park that climbs through a beautiful stretch of forest and alongside the Coquihalla River as it flows through the scenic canyon. The route begins and ends at the Othello Tunnels, a series of old railway tunnels that were once blasted into the rocky landscape. This area is extremely popular with tourists, so it is best to arrive early to secure parking; although most people will likely just explore the area around the tunnels, meaning you won’t be cramped for space along the majority of this scenic hiking trail. This route is a perfect blend of scenic views, historical sites, and non-technical terrain, making it an ideal trail for a fun family excursion near Hope, BC.
Getting to the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail Trailhead
To get to the parking area for the Hope-Nicola Valley Trail from Hope, head northeast on Kawkawa Lake Road for 2.8 km and make a right turn onto Othello Road. Make another right after 850 m to stay on the road and follow it for another 2.2 km. Turn right onto Tunnels Road and keep straight until you reach the parking area.
