The Appleton le Street to Malton Walk is a fantastic adventure in the Howardian Hills AONB that will expose you to a variety of terrain and beautiful views within the region. While out walking the trail, you will leave the charming village behind and traverse the open fields and woodlands of the Howardian Hills, taking in views of the Castle Howard Estate before making your way into the market town of Malton. Walkers should take note that this is a one-way adventure that will require you to take the bus for the return leg (the bus runs Monday to Saturday).

Route Description for Appleton le Street to Malton Walk
Variety is the spice of life, and if you are looking for a bit of variety in your next walk - both in terms of terrain and views - then you will want to give the Appleton le Street to Malton Walk in the Howardian Hills a shot.
Setting out from the small village of Appleton le Street, you will head to the southwest and climb up the hillside, traversing the open fields to eventually meet up with the edge of a forest. Turning to the southeast, you will make your way along the edge of the wood and climb gently further uphill.
Here you will enjoy some scenic views looking out onto the estate grounds of Castle Howard, an extravagant country house that has been the home of the Howard family for 300 years. From here, you will head east to descend the hillside and make your way into the market town of Malton, where you can catch the bus or a taxi back to your starting point in the village.
