Route Description for Lake Estelle Trail
Immerse yourself in Northern Idaho’s high country along the Lake Estelle Trail. This marvelous hike progresses through huckleberry bushes, pine tree stands, rock gardens, and blossoming meadows up to the crystalline lake. Note that the mosquitos are relentless, so bug repellent is a must! Additionally, as the route is overgrown and poorly marked, we encourage the employment of the trail GPS. Lastly, it is important to note that the road to the trailhead, so vehicles with high ground clearance are recommended.
Embark on your adventure along the Lake Estelle Trail from the trailhead off Moose Creek Road. From here, you will be granted mesmerizing scenes of Moose Mountain looming above. Tracking southeast from here, you will begin an arduous climb through the lush meadowlands, and pine tree stands. After some hiking, you will be redirected north up the rocky ridges anchored by the adjacent mountain. Take your time and mind your footing as you ascend.
Using the trail GPS, the route will curve west, up into the basin where Lake Estelle sits. Marvel at the beauty of the crystalline lake hemmed by evergreen adorned bluffs. If time and weather permit, take a refreshing swim in the alpine waters. When you are through exploring, head down the path the way you came.
