Route Description for Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail

Treat yourself to a wonderful workout and majestic views on the Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail. While manageable for most hikers, a few sections along this track will get your heart rate up! Pack plenty of water and wear sun protection to avoid overexposure. Due to this route’s accessibility and scenery, it sees plenty of traffic, so those seeking a more tranquil adventure are encouraged to head out in the early morning. Note the mosquitos can be relentless, so be sure to wear some bug spray!

Embark on your adventure from the trailhead off S Highway 97. Setting out from here, you will be led up a set of switchbacks along the Mineral Ridge Trail. Not long after your departure will you reach an intersection. Here, turn right, and you will be redirected eastwardly and up to the top of the ridge. Veer right, and you will be diverted onto the Wilson Trail, which will ultimately deliver you to an overlook of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Marvel at the beauty of the reservoir and the bounding mountains that are complemented by lush woodlands.

When you finish reveling in the scenery, retrace your steps along the Wilson Trail, this time taking the rightmost Mineral Ridge Trail—balancing atop the ridge, you will be rewarded with even more views of the lake before plunging down the hill via switchbacks. The southbound trail will ultimately deliver you back to the trailhead, marking the end of your excursion.
