Route Description for Moose Lake Trail
Hike into the alpine and treat yourself to seclusion and scenery on the Moose Lake Trail. While we are fans of most hikes, the Moose Lake Trail is arguably one of our favorites. Sometimes you cannot commit a whole day to hike, though we wish this wasn’t the case, so the Moose Lake Trail is a perfect short trek into the wilderness. Pack plenty of water and your camera as the scenery is quite photogenic. Note the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged, so a vehicle with high ground clearance is recommended.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will notice a couple of paths; take the rightmost rough signposted for Moose Lake. Tracking eastwardly, you will be guided into the vibrant forestlands and along Moose Creek, be it dry or running. Enjoy the sparse shade that the open tree canopy provides and revel in the scene of the wildflowers and huckleberry bushes that bound the path. Gradually climbing, the path will eventually redirect you south.
After some hiking, you will reach the shoreline of Moose Lake. Revel in the beauty of the alpine lake encircled by towering evergreens and bound by the looming ridges of Moose Mountain. Appreciate the marvelous scenery, then head back the way you came to the trailhead.
