Route Description for Gem Lake via Rush Creek Trail
The Gem Lake via Rush Creek Trails combination of length and elevation gain make it appropriate only for more experienced hikers, and so you should ensure your skills and equipment are sufficient enough before attempting. The upper sections of the route can also become rather slippery when snow is on the ground and therefore we do not recommend attempting the route subsequent to a snowfall.
After leaving your vehicle at the lot, locate the trailhead and follow Rush Creek Trail south. Having passed over a creek, the route will then begin to traverse a steep hillside while maintaining its southern heading. The Rush Creek Trail will then eventually cross a second creek before turning into a series of switchbacks.
With the first switchback section completed, the Rush Creek Trail will veer to the west, alongside the northern shore of Agnew Lake. Having traversed more steep hillside, the route will once again turn into a series of switchbacks before arriving at beautiful Gem Lake. Take this opportunity to enjoy the sightlines and have a rest before backtracking your steps towards the trailhead.
