An ideal route for families with young children, Lake George to Emerald Lake via Coldwater Campground Trail traverses stunning Inyo National Forest terrain while leading you past a number of beautiful lakes. The route is also considered to be an excellent location for wildlife viewing.
Route Description for Lake George to Emerald Lake via Coldwater Campground Trail
Depending on the time of year you plan to do the Lake George to Emerald Lake via Coldwater Campground Trail, the mosquitoes can be rather prolific. Therefore, it is recommended that you bring lots of bug repellent and wear both long sleeves and pants if you plan to do the route in the springtime. Having parked your vehicle, follow the Coldwater Campground to Lake George Trail as it makes its way south along the eastern shore of Lake George. The trail will then veer away from the lakeshore and arrive at Lake Barrett, climbing elevation steadily as it goes. Once you have reached the western shore of Lake Barrett, you will arrive at a junction within the trail. At the junction, take the eastern pathway, and continue to follow it as it makes its way southeast. The route will veer northwards shortly - passing several small lakes as it goes - before once again heading southeast and arriving at another junction. Having arrived at the junction, follow the eastern pathway onto Emerald Lake Trail and continue along it until you reach the lake itself. Take some time to enjoy the sightlines; you've earned it!
