As the Lucky Boy Vista Trail To Elton Mine Trail is within the desert environment of Joshua Tree National Park, it is important that you prepare yourself for the desert climate. Ensure that you bring lots of water with you, and that you protect yourself from the sun by wearing lots of sunscreen and a good hat.

Having arrived at the Trailhead on Desert Queen Mine Road, take the eastern pathway on Lucky Boy Vista Loop. Follow Lucky Boy Vista Loop as it heads east through relatively flat terrain, where you will soon reach a junction. At the junction, if you want to see Elton Mine, continue along the pathway to the east.

Once you have had time to explore Elton Mine, backtrack your way to the junction, and take the northernmost route. Here the trail begins to gain elevation before veering to the west. Soon the elevation will decline again, and the trail will bring you back to Desert Queen Mine Road. Once at the road, follow it south towards your waiting vehicle.
