Route Description for Dodd Wood Short Circular Walk
While the Dodd Wood Short Circular is - as the name suggests - a short walking route through the forest, the trail also comes into close contact with the waters of Skill Beck. Make sure to wear some decent walking shoes, as portions of the trail might be wet and muddy.
If you are looking for a fun family adventure through a beautiful stretch of woodland, then the Dodd Wood Short Circular just might be what you are after. The route features easy-to-navigate pathways through a wonderfully atmospheric forest that is sure to make the younger walkers in your party feel like seasoned adventurers. For the sake of convenience, you will also find toilet facilities and a cafe right next to the trailhead!
Setting out from the car park, follow the trail northeast as it skirts around The Old Sawmill Tearoom. This is a great place to grab a snack or drink either before or after your walk, but remember to pack out your trash if you exercise the former option. After crossing over Skill Beck, head left at the junction and keep straight along the trail for 0.3 km as it winds through the tranquil atmosphere of the forest.
When you reach the junction in the trail, continue along the main path as it turns sharply to the south east and gains a bit more elevation up the slopes of Ullock Pike and Long Side. As you pass through Longside Wood, take some time to appreciate the diversity of plant life that includes mature trees and a blanket of vibrant green ferns across the forest floor.
Arriving at a bridge that spans the flowing waters of Skill Beck, cross over to the other side and follow the trail west along the stream. After traversing the forested slopes of Dodd for 0.7 km, head right at the junction to complete the remainder of the journey that will return you to the car park where you began.

Getting to the Dodd Wood Short Circular Walk Trailhead
To reach the Dodd Wood Short Circular Walk car park from Keswick, head northwest on Main Street for 0.6 km and turn right onto Crosthwaite Road. After another 0.6 km, take the second exit at the roundabout onto A591. Continue on for 5.1 km to find the car park on the right.
