Walking the Sale Fell Circular is a great adventure in the northwestern corner of the Lake District that will take you through a beautiful forest to the summit of the rugged peak. While out on the trail, you will walk through a serene stretch of woodland terrain as you climb up the network of trails on the hillside before arriving at the summit for views overlooking the blue expanse of Bassenthwaite Lake. This trail is perfect for a hot summer day, as the canopy of the forest will provide a good amount of protection from the sun and the views from the summit will be all the more spectacular.
Route Description for Sale Fell Circular Walk
The Sale Fell Circular is one of the most scenic walks in the northern portion of the Lake District, taking you uphill through the forest for some absolutely stunning views, but there is a bit of elevation gain along the route that could prove troublesome for less mobile walkers. Simply take your time along the route and the terrain leading up to the summit will be more than manageable. Additionally, if you are looking for a spot for some post-walk drinks/food, try heading into The Pheasant Inn next to the trailhead.
Setting out from the car park at the inn, the trail will initially head south across an open stretch of terrain before entering into the dense cover of the forest. From here, you will make your way southwest through the tranquil woodland setting and steadily climb your way uphill to the open terrain at the summit of Sale Fell. Once there, you will have a breathtaking sightline of the surrounding Lake District terrain, with the majestic Skiddaw across Bassenthwaite Lake to the southeast, and the Lord’s Seat to the south. After taking in the views, continue east along the trail and follow it downhill as it winds through the forest to the inn where you began your adventure.
