Route Description for Angora Lakes Trail
If you are seeking a relaxing nature walk near South Lake Tahoe, then the Angora Lakes Hike is an excellent choice. Travel through mixed forests and up to two shimmering alpine lakes, one of which is bounded by the impressive granite cliffs of Echo Peak. Note: this area is very popular, especially in the summer, so arrive early to secure a spot in the parking lot. There is also a $10USD parking fee at the trailhead. Additionally, the Angora Ridge Road is subject to seasonal closure; those who visit in the off-season will have to park at the Fallen Leaf Chapel and walk-up trail 17E37.
Setting out from the trailhead, track the Angora Ridge Road along the dirt path. Sparsely shaded until you reach Lower Angora Lake, you will be pleased by the scene of the towering pines. Trekking southwest, you will eventually reach Lower Angora Lake, where you will notice several cabins, as well as visitors enjoying the waters. Continue hiking up the route to yet another collection of cabins that sit along the shores of Upper Angora Lake.
Marvel in the beautiful scene of the crystal-clear waters flanked by looming granite bluffs take a dip in the water if time permits. Spend as much time as you want overlooking the lake, before retracing your footing along the path back down to the trailhead and parking lot.
