Route Description for Showers Lake via the PCT

Immerse yourself in California’s alpine terrain along Showers Lake via PCT. Boasting extraordinary scenery and stunning vistas, this trek checks all the boxes. Open year-round, this versatile trek can be enjoyed even after snowfall with the proper equipment and preparation. Note: avalanches are a possibility when hiking this route in the winter months, so exercise caution! Additionally, this route is a popular backpacking trail in the summer months, so we recommend heading out early to beat the crowds and ensure you get a spot in the small trailhead lot.

Setting out from the Meiss Trailhead, the Showers Lake via PCT follows – you guessed it – the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT). Shortly after departing the trailhead, the path will climb intensely up a set of switchbacks to a mountain saddle. Don’t let the tiring terrain discourage you, as the path will dip back down into Meiss Valley and plateau for a while. Enjoy the level terrain and sights of the encompassing craggy peaks as you wander through the valley, weaving between tree shade and exposed meadowlands.

Following the PCT, the trail will again pick up in intensity as you climb the ridge up to Showers Lake. Let the anticipation of the picture-perfect lake drive you! At the lake, you will likely be joined by several other adventurers who took another approach. Revel in the beauty of the alpine lake and the surrounding mountainous landscape, before retracing your steps all the way back to the trailhead.
