Directions to Trailhead

The Hogback Loop Trail is a rugged hiking route in Los Angeles that loops around the hilly landscape of Griffith Park for incredible views of the city. While out on the trail, you will make your way past several scenic viewpoints and up into the mountains, where you can appreciate the contrast between the natural beauty of Southern California and the manmade features of the city from atop several mountain peaks. Hikers should take note that some stretches of this trail are a bit rugged and will require some scrambling.

Route Description for Hogback Loop Trail

A great hike in Los Angeles for those times when you want to push yourself, the Hogback Loop Trail will also reward you with some beautiful views that stretch out across Los Angeles.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way northeast to Vista Viewpoint for some nice views, before turning northwest along the slopes of Glendale Peak. Here, the Hogback Trail will continue northwest across the hilly landscape to traverse the summits of Taco Peak, Mount Baby Bell, and Mount Chapel.

After looping back around to the east along the Mulholland Trail, you will eventually get onto Mount Hollywood Drive and follow it south to the Tiffany & Co Foundation Overlook. From here, you will continue on in a southeast direction to return to the trailhead.

The trailhead for the Hogback Loop Trail can be found on Commonwealth Avenue near the Cedar Grove Trail.
