Route Description for Last Chance Trail

The Last Chance Trail is a wonderful hike into the Topatopa Mountain Range above Ojai. Immerse yourself in the Santa Paula Canyon and indulge in the beauty of the idyllic swimming holes and cascades along Santa Paula Creek. This wonderful adventure is a popular route, so expect to share the trail. Those seeking a more tranquil experience are encouraged to head out in the early morning! Be sure to pack a towel in case you want to hop into the swimming holes! Note the rocky terrain can be slippery, so take your time and mind your footing. Though not necessary, the trail GPS may prove useful.

Setting out from the parking lot, use the trail GPS and follow the road north up to the trailhead. The Last Chance Hike follows the East Fork Trail northeastwardly, gradually climbing into the Santa Paula Canyon. As you hike, the path will intersect with the creek, guiding you past the beautiful swimming holes and charming cascades. Admire the scene, then continue up the path to Big Cone Camp. Beyond this point, you will be led along the Last Chance Trail.

Ascend several switchbacks and admire the sporadic views of the encompassing Topatopa Mountains from the tree breaks. Though this route continues further, we shortly turned around and began retracing our steps back to the trailhead.
