Route Description for Windy Ridge Hike

With breathtaking views of the entire park - particularly of Mount Assiniboine to the south - and some rugged ridgeline terrain, the Windy Ridge Trail is a popular route in the park for those looking to catch the most scenic panoramic views of the alpine landscape. Setting out from the Assiniboine Lodge, the trail will take you through the forests and meadows situated to the north, before climbing up the steep and rocky terrain of the ridge. Once you have reached the saddle of Windy Ridge just below Og Mountain, you will receive jaw-dropping views of mountain peaks in every direction, but none more spectacular than the majestic sightline towards Mount Assiniboine in the south. After taking in the unforgettable views, follow the trail back down the steep slope of the mountainside on the return leg of the journey back to the lodge.

Getting to the Windy Ridge Hike Trailhead

Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park is a hard to reach hiking destination, thanks to its lack of access roads leading into the park. For those looking to explore its many trails, you will need to either hire a helicopter or backpack in from the Mount Shark or Sunshine Village trailheads.
