Stake Lake to Ponderosa Trail

The Stake Lake to Ponderosa Trail is a 4.5 km hiking circuit south of Kamloops that winds through the wonderfully forested terrain of McConnell Lake Provincial Park and the Stake Lake Recreation Site. Along the hike, you will be able to relax in the peaceful woodland setting as you work your way around the edges of small ponds and the much larger shores of Stake Lake. Remember to bring a trail map or GPS for this hike, as there are several intersecting trails that may make navigation challenging.

Route Description for Stake Lake to Ponderosa Trail
As with most of the trails in McConnell Lake Provincial Park, the Stake Lake to Ponderosa Trail is a fun, family-friendly hiking adventure that will allow you to experience the natural beauty of the North Thompson Valley landscape. Setting out from the parking area, follow the trail to the south and make your way along the wooded western edge of Stake Lake. After passing by a small building and crossing over Cowan Creek, you will make your way through a small meadow and re-enter the forest along the southern edge of the lake. Follow the trail as it turns to the east and passes through a charming stretch of forest before looping around a few smaller woodland ponds on the return journey to the trailhead where you began your hike.
Getting to the Stake Lake to Ponderosa Trail Trailhead
To access the trailhead for the Stake Lake to Ponderosa Trail from Kamloops, drive southwest for 3.4 km on BC-1 and take exit 366. Make a left turn after 300 m on Copperhead Drive and continue for 190 m. Turn right onto Lac Le Jeune Road, continuing along it for 21.5 km, where you will make a left turn onto Stake Lake Ski Trail. You will arrive at the trailhead in 290 m.
