The Apex Mountain Hike is a lightly-trafficked route nestled deep into the Okanagan Valley. Most will overlook this hike and seek out paths that wind to glimpses of a lush valley sprawled below and shimmering lake views, but this hike shows off the Okanagan’s backcountry, where layers and layers of mountains stretch across the horizon.

Route Description for Apex Mountain Trail

Apex Mountain Trail near Penticton, BC, doesn’t attract many hikers, but it’s definitely worth your time! What’s better than spending a couple of hours immersed in nature? From the trailhead, you’ll head straight for about 50 m before turning left at the first trail junction, followed by a quick right onto Vindicator trail. Continue along Vindicator trail, heading towards Prometheus trail. Eventually, you’ll reach Okanagan Vista trail, cross over this trail and continue straight. When you reach the junction at Nickel Plate Cross Country Ski Trails Recreation Site, take a hard left and stay right at the next intersection. Continue along this path until you get to the top of Apex Mountain!

Getting to the Apex Mountain Trail Trailhead

To get to Apex Mountain Trail from Penticton, BC, you’ll head towards Green Mountain Road. Stay on here for 12.4mi before turning right onto Apex Mountain Road. After 4.8mi, you’ll turn left to remain on Apex Mountain Road, which turns into Continue onto Hedley Nickle Plate Road. You’ll park at Winter’s Creek, on your left-hand side.
