    Table of contents

Little River Trail is a long route in Olympic National Park, favored for its calm atmosphere and lush forest. This particular trail goes right up to the base of Hurricane Hill without climbing it, making it a bit easier—although with 1,100 m of elevation gain to complete, it’s still a hard hike. You’ll likely only see a few other groups on this lightly trafficked trail.

Route Description for Little River Trail

Little River Trail is a very enjoyable hike, with a calm atmosphere, a gorgeous forest, and the babbling South Branch of the Little River to keep you company. If the full distance is too much, you can hike as far as you like before turning back around and still have a nice time out. A shorter version of this hike would be more family-friendly.

This version of the Little River Trail stays on the flatter rainforest floor and turns around before climbing Hurricane Hill. You can continue up the hill for more of a challenge, but be prepared if you do, because it adds a hefty dose of climbing to an already long hike.

The Little River Trail begins from the access road, immediately crossing the river. You’ll walk alongside the South Branch of the Little River, trailing through the rainforest. The Gregory Mine Route intersects just before a creek crossing, so stay left here.

If you hike to the end, you’ll turn around at the base of Hurricane Hill where the path starts its ascent. Simply retrace your steps.
