Route Description for Mount Angeles via Switchback Trail
Mount Angeles is a fun, quick summit from Switchback Trail. While it starts out more moderate, the final summit push requires some scrambling that may feel daunting to some. It’s alright, the views are great even if you don’t quite make it to the top. Strong hikers will likely find this trail moderate and new hikers may find it hard.
There is little tree cover on this hike, so bring plenty of water. Poles and boots with good tread are recommended for the descent, which is mostly dust and scree.
Begin from the trailhead for the Hurricane Ridge to Switchback Trail. This route is true to its name, switchbacking most of the way up the mountain. It’s a steady, steep ascent. At the junction, stay left to cross the stream and traverse left across the slope.
After catching your breath on the traverse, it’s time to get going. Turn right up the mountain and contend with the scramble, going as far as you like towards the summit. The views are great on a clear day. From here, it’s a careful descent back to where you started via the same route.
