Route Description for Twin Lakes via Granite Mountain Trail
The Twin Lakes via Granite Mountain Trail is a great hike near New Meadow, Idaho. This family-friendly route explores lush meadows abundant with grazing cattle and wildflowers before summiting the shoreline of the shimmering alpine lake. Boasting an array of scenery in such a short hike, this wonderment pack adventure is one of our favorites. Note that the mosquitos here are relentless, so bring bug spray!
Embark on your easy-going excursion from the trailhead off N Goose Road. Setting out from here, you will be guided southwardly along the Granite Mountain Trail, gradually climbing into the montane meadow. Do not disturb the grazing cattle and mind your footing as there may be some of their evidence on the path, if you know what we mean. Admire the beautiful alpine scenery that encompasses you and snap photos along the way. After some hiking, you will confront an intersection, keep right here, and you will be diverted onto the Twin Lake Trail.
Follow this route up to the shoreline of the Twin Lakes. Notice frogs and trout occupying the lily pad-laden lake. Enjoy the view of Granite Mountain’s ridges hemming the lake, then head back down to the trailhead the way you came.
