The Wyming Brook and Rivelin Reservoir Walk is a popular circular route near Sheffield, well known for its wooded valleys, flowing water, and easy access from the city. The trail passes through the heart of Wyming Brook nature reserve, which means you may encounter busier sections during peak hours or on school days when outdoor education groups are present. Arriving early is the best way to secure parking and enjoy a quieter walk.

There are a few short sections of rocky ground alongside Wyming Brook that require careful footing, especially after rain, but these are manageable for most walkers. Part of the northern section follows the A57, which is the least scenic portion of the route, though this stretch is relatively short and leads back into woodland once the reservoir is reached.

Despite the brief roadside walking, most of the Wyming Brook route winds through peaceful forest and steep-sided cloughs. The surrounding woodland was once part of the historic Rivelin Chase, used by local nobility for hunting and hawking. Today, the area is protected, and the Wyming Brook nature reserve offers a calm setting that suits both relaxed strolls and family-friendly adventures close to Sheffield.

Setting out from the car park, make your way north along the track for 46 m and take the path branching off to the right. From here, follow the trail into the forest and cross over the flowing waters of Wyming Brook before turning left at the first junction. In 37 m, you will cross the brook again via a small bridge, then continue for 0.8 km through dense woodland. This section closely follows Wyming Brook as it gradually approaches the Rivelin Lower Reservoir.

After descending a short set of steps, you will reach a kissing gate at Wyming Brook Drive. Turn left and follow the forest track for 1.1 km to a bridge over Reddicar Clough. Cross the bridge and continue for another 0.8 km, walking beneath a tree canopy as the path meets Rivelin Brook and follows it to another crossing.

Cross the brook and turn right at the junction, heading towards a gate beside a small car park. Pass through and walk east along the A57 for 1.4 km, taking in occasional views across the reservoir and surrounding woodland. Turn right by the old dam house and follow the dam wall south across Rivelin Lower Reservoir.

On reaching the far side, turn right and head towards a gate along the southern edge of the reservoir. With Fox Holes Lodge on your left, pass through and continue for 0.2 km to a kissing gate. Rejoin the original woodland path and follow Wyming Brook for 1.0 km back to the car park, completing the Wyming Brook and Rivelin Reservoir Walk.
