Union Peak Loop
The Union Peak Loop is an easy trail in the Phoenix Sonoran Desert Preserve that climbs up to the top of this little peak, giving you a nice view of nearby Dixie Mountain. This hike is usually not too busy at all and can be completed by beginners and kids. You can extend or shorten your adventure by using the other trails in this part of the preserve if you’d like. Expect light traffic most days on this route.

Route Description for Union Peak Loop
The Union Peak Loop leads you to the top of Union Peak in the Phoenix Sonoran Desert Preserve. From the top of this little peak, you’ll have a great view of nearby Dixie Mountain and the rest of the hills in this area. This route is good for all skill levels and generally isn’t very busy. Try it in the evening when the golden hour glow warms up the landscape.
As with all hikes in the Phoenix area, plan to bring water with you, consider wearing sun protection, and avoid hiking during the heat of the day.
From the trailhead, take Hawk’s Nest Trail to where the loop splits. Stay left and continue onto Dixie Mountain Loop. Bear right when Dixie Mountain appears on your left to turn towards Union Peak. continue onto Valle Verde Trail and hike up the peak. From here, hike back to the fork and then go left to return to the trailhead on Desert Tortoise Trail.

The trailhead for the Union Peak Loop is at the end of W Desert Vista Trail.
