Route Description for Alamere Falls via Olema Valley Trail
The Alamere Falls via Olema Valley Trail is no walk in the park, but the awesome views are well worth the sweat. Wear a sturdy pair of footwear, as much of the route travels over uneven terrain obstructed with roots and rocks! We also encourage hikers to dress in layers, as the coastal environment features ever-changing and extreme weather conditions! Note: the final descent to the beach requires scrambling down the vertiginous terrain via rope—which is no easy feat!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Alamere Falls via Olema Valley Trail follows the Olema Valley Trail through woodlands and meadows. Eventually, you will reach an intersection with the Bolema Trail, where you will veer right. This route will ascend via switchbacks to another junction, where you will follow the Lake Ranch Trail to gradually descend towards the coast. Eventually, you will turn right onto the Coast Trail, passing Bass Lake, Crystal Lake, and Pelican Lake.
At the next junction, veer left and you will be diverted onto the Alamere Falls Trail, which boasts the most technical section of the hike. Take your time and carefully descend the shortcut along the profile of the falls to the beach. From the shore, admire the beauty of the rare tidal falls that cascade over the shale headlands. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
