Route Description for Chimney Rock Trail
We encourage you to indulge in the breathtaking ocean views along this route. Easy-going and family-friendly, this trail caters to adventurers of all skill levels and ages. Explore the headlands, watch the grey whale migration, and spot elephant seals sunning below. This epic excursion is unparalleled in its beauty. While the unshaded terrain exposes dumbfounding vistas, it also warrants extreme conditions—so expect win and fog. We encourage hikers to dress in layers!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Chimney Rock Trail travels southeast along the Chimney Rock Trail. This path will guide you through the coastal grasslands towards the tip of the peninsula. As you hike, you will be rewarded with panoramic ocean views as well as with the sounds of the elephant seals. Enjoy the maritime ambiance as you pass the Lookout Tower Ruins.
Soon you will reach the lookout at the top of the peninsula, revealing views of the Chimney Rock below and sweeping panoramas of the ocean and Drakes Bay. Appreciate the grandeur of the view, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
