Route Description for Sky Trail and Coast Trail Loop

The Sky Trail and Coast Trail Loop is a stunning adventure through diverse landscapes, offering a variety of astounding views. As this route demands time and endurance, it is often quite secluded – notably on weekday mornings! When traveling through the woodlands and tall brush, be mindful of poison oak and stinging nettles. As you near the coastline you will see warnings to maintain on the marked path—respect these signs as the coastal headlands are extremely fragile and can easily crumble! Additionally, we encourage hikers to dress in layers as insurance against the ever-changing coastal conditions.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Sky Trail and Coast Trail follows the Sky Trail southeast into the woodlands. Soon after your departure you will confront an intersection and continue along the Sky Trail, passing through the Sky Campground. As you weave through brush, meadows, and forests, keep an eye out for elk; if you do spot one, make sure to keep your distance! Follow the Sky Trail all the way to the coast and turn right to track northwest along the Coast Trail. Marvel in the panoramic ocean views as you wander and take a detour down to Kelham Beach if time permits.

Follow this path and take a quick break on Sculptured Beach, where you will eventually merge onto the Woodward Valley Trail. This route diverts inland, ultimately reconnecting with the Sky Trail. When this happens, keep left and hike northwest, retracing your steps along the Sky Trail all the way back to the trailhead.
