Route Description for Cameron Lake Railway Trestles
A popular hiking route with families, beginner hikers, and those with historical interests; the Cameron Lake Railway Trestles Hike is a great excursion that provides stunning views of the lake and the chance to gain an insight into the region's historic railroad past. Setting out from the parking area, follow the trail west across the Little Qualicum River and follow the rail line through the forest. A number of scenic vantage points along the trail will provide some amazing views of Cameron Lake before you arrive at the site of the railway trestles. The giant timber frames have fallen into disrepair over the years; however, you can still gain a sense of how great of an engineering feat they really were. After reaching the end of the trail, turn back and retrace your steps along the edge of the lake until you arrive back at the parking area.
Getting to the Cameron Lake Railway Trestles Trailhead
To get to the trailhead for the Cameron Lake Railway Trestles from Port Alberni, head to the northeast along the Port Alberni Highway for 3.3 km and keep straight onto BC-4. After 20.8 km, you will find the parking area on the left side of the road.
