The Ancient Forest Trail is a boardwalk route granting up-close views of a historic rainforest in BC's Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Provincial Park. This new BC park boasts three trails, with two easier trails, Ancient Forest Trail (or Ancient Forest Boardwalk Trail) and Universal Access Trail, a wheelchair-accessible route, and one challenging 15.5 km route Driscoll Ridge Trail. The Ancient Forest Trail may be open year-round, but double-check this information for possible closures or unsafe conditions before travelling here during winter.
Route Description for Ancient Forest Trail
The Ancient Forest Trail in Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Provincial Park boasts phenomenal rainforest scenery! This short boardwalk adventure makes for excellent conditions for families seeking a relaxing experience. At the trailhead, you'll find picnic tables and outhouses as well. So pack some food and turn this short walk into a more extended outing! Plus, the 800-2000-year-old cedars will provide the ultimate entertainment.
You can either decide to create your own adventure from your car or follow the various trails throughout. Just know that the lower section has a boardwalk, making it wheelchair accessible, but the upper area is a bit more rugged but unveils stunning views and takes you to a waterfall. To complete the entire trail, follow the Treebeard Loop before veering off onto the Big Tree Loop, which connects back with Treebeard Loop. Continue along this trail, eventually veering towards a waterfall. Spend some time here before turning around and going right to continue onto Treebeard Loop.
When you reach the trail for the Universal Boardwalk, opt to go right to check out the scenery along this section before retracing your steps back to the same junction and continuing to your car.
