Route Description for East Shore Trail
The East Shore Trail is an idyllic family adventure. Hike along the shores of the shimmering lake all while enjoying the mountainous landscape that lines the horizon. The mild undulations and elevation of the trail enables it to be ventured by hikers of all skill levels. Lace up your sneakers and purchase your park pass because you are going on an adventure!
Embark on your adventure along the East Shore Trail from the trailhead off Jerico Road. From the trailhead, track the Continental Divide Trail south along the shoreline of the Shadow Mountain Lake. Hike the well-marked path along the shore and at the first intersection, keep right on the now more primitive East Shore Trail. Trek through the wetlands and along a meadow where there are often grazing deer and elk. Trek this route all the way to the trail’s end, which marks your turn around point.
From here, retrace your steps along the path all the way back to the trailhead. In our opinion, the return back to the trailhead is the most scenic, as you will be granted views of the Never Summer Mountains and the snow-capped Rocky Mountains in the north.
