Route Description for Onyx Peak Hike
If you are looking for a laidback trail in the San Bernardino Mountains or are getting your family used to undertaking longer hikes, then the Onyx Peak Hike will be the ideal route for you to try out. Featuring a steady climb along a dirt road and nice views of the surrounding landscape, you can go wrong with this moderate-length trail.
Setting out from the roadside parking area, you will follow along the forest service road as it heads to the north and begins climbing the mountainside. The best views can be found throughout the hike rather than at the summit, so take your time and breathe the fresh mountain air as you gaze out across the undulating Southern California terrain.
Eventually, the road will bend to the southeast and continue winding uphill to bring you to the summit of Onyx Peak. Here, you can pause for a quick rest, before working your way back downhill along the same route to return to the trailhead.
