While out on the trail, you will make your way through the woodland and desert terrain of the canyon, taking in the views of local plant and animal life, before visiting the ruins of what was once a gold miners home. Make sure to bring bear spray, as there are often sightings in the area.

Route Description for Pipes Canyon and Olsen Ruins Hike
If you enjoy relaxing excursions that feature plenty of animal and plant life, as well as interesting historical sites, then the Pipes Canyon and Olsen Ruins Hike will be a great trail for you to explore within the boundary of the San Bernardino National Forest.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the west, leaving several buildings behind as you enter into the terrain of Pipes Canyon. Here, you will traverse a mixture of desert and woodland terrain, taking in the views of surrounding plant life that includes yuccas, black sage, orange mallow, and juniper shrubs.
After working your way through the canyon, you will arrive at the site of the Olsen Ruins, where over 100 years ago a gold miner in the area had made his home. After exploring the ruined house, you can simply head back along the same trail to return to the starting point of your hike.

The trailhead for the Pipes Canyon and Olsen Ruins Hike can be found along Pipes Canyon Road, just 6.3 km northwest of Pioneertown.
