Route Description for Cliff House Hike

Enjoy wildflowers and large coastal cypress along this wonderful trail. Explore several historical sites, including the Cliff House and Sutro Baths, whilst reveling in unrivaled views of the Pacific Ocean. Located along the coastal bluffs, you can expect windy and foggy conditions, so we encourage explorers to dress in layers as insurance against varying weather. Additionally, there are several staircases along this route, so be prepared to do some climbing. Finally, note several paths here are poorly signposted, so the trail GPS may prove useful.

Embark on your journey along the Cliff House Hike from the parking lot and trailhead off El Camino del Mar. Setting out from here, follow the leftmost path that runs parallel to the roadway, connecting with the Coastal Trail at the route’s end. When you reach Point Lobos Ave, turn right and wander west to the Cliff House and North Observation Deck. Marvel in the amazing coastal views and the scenes of the baths below. From here, retrace your footing, turning left at the intersection down to the Sutro Baths.

Explore the ruins of the historic baths, then merge onto the Sutro Baths Upper Trail. Hike this route up the coastal bluffs, turning left onto the Coastal Trail at the junction. Meander past the USS San Francisco Memorial and back to your vehicle.
