Baldy Peak Hike
The Baldy Peak Hike is a great adventure in the San Juan Mountains that will take you up to the summit for incredible views of the surrounding area. While out on the trail, you will pass through some forest terrain, before climbing up the slopes of the mountain and pushing on to the summit for panoramic views. Hikers should take note that bears are often spotted in the area, so be sure to bring your bear spray and make plenty of noise along the trail.

Route Description for Baldy Peak Hike
If you are after a bit of a rugged bushwhacking experience and want to take in some stunning views from the summit of a mountain, then the Baldy Peak hike will be an ideal route for you to explore. This fun trail will see you pass through some slightly overgrown brush at the start of the hike, so be prepared for an initially slow-going adventure.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will follow the trail north through the tree cover, before it turns to the west and begins climbing uphill. Here, you will traverse a series of switchbacks through the overgrown landscape and make your woy out of the tree cover towards the ridgeline.
Taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, you will make your way to the northeast along the ridge and follow it as it bends to the west. After pushing up to the summit, you will experience panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and forest, before heading back along the same route to return to the trailhead where you started.
Getting to the Baldy Peak Hike Trailhead
The trailhead for the Baldy Peak Hike can be found east of Portland, along Forest Service Road 14A.
