The First Missouri Lake Hike is a must add to your hiking to-do list. With moderate elevation gain and manageable terrain, this is an awesome way to get a workout in while enjoying breathtaking views. Traveling through pine forests and picturesque alpine meadows, the views are scenic every step of the way. It is worth noting that the terrain is rocky in sections, so wear sturdy footwear and mind your footing. Additionally, make sure to strap on a pair of microspikes and bring trekking poles when hiking in the fall and winter months! To begin your adventure up to the First Missouri Lake, take off from the trailhead off Missouri Creek Road. From here, follow the Missouri Lakes Trail southwest along the gurgling waters of Missouri Creek. Soon after your departure, the trail will divert northwest, ascending the forested gulch. The trail will eventually graduate above the timberline to reveal impressive views of the surrounding craggy walls of Savage Peak. Follow the path all the way up to the first Missouri Lake. Revel in the scenery of the shimmering waters that are flanked by impressive granite walls. We encourage you to take the time to explore the other lakes that litter the slope in order to make the most of your adventure. Enjoy the charming blue-hued lakes and, when you are ready to head back down, simply retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
