Enjoy mesmerizing views of the Smoky Mountains and Sun Valley along the Roundhouse via Bald Mountain Hike. This lovely trail explores the mountainside of the winter ski resort-turned hiking and biking oasis in the summer months—offering great views and a great workout. While this area is well maintained and signposted, the Bald Mountain Trail intersects with numerous trails, so the trail GPS is recommended. Additionally, it is important to note that much of the trail is unshaded, so pack plenty and wear sun protection to avoid overexposure. Setting out from the parking lot off Serenade Lane, the Roundhouse via Bald Mountain Hike follows the road northwestwardly, over Big Wood River before merging onto the Bald Mountain Trail. Beyond this point, the trail GPS will direct you northwestwardly, gradually climbing up the mountainside. After some hiking, you will be led through switchbacks, ultimately being rerouted south. Alternating through open meadows and shaded forests, you will intersect with several ski runs as you wander beneath ski lifts. Eventually, the Bald Mountain Trail will deliver you to the Roundhouse—a restaurant overlooking the mountains and the valley below. Stop in for a bite to eat or simply admire the beautiful views here. Retrace your footing down the mountain to the trailhead when you are ready to head back.
