Route Description for Taylor Canyon Loop Hike
A wonderful workout and mesmerizing mountain views await on the Taylor Canyon Loop Trail. This moderate day hike explores a variety of terrains occupied by a diversity of flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for deer and coyotes as you meander through the arid landscape, and take advantage of the sparse tree coverage when you can! While the exposed route offers breathtaking mountain views, it also warrants extreme conditions, notably unbearable heat in the summer season, so it is wise to wear SPF, bring plenty of water, and head out in the early morning.
With a water bottle and a charged camera in tow, your adventure begins from the trailhead. While you can choose to trek in either direction, we chose to veer right, hiking counterclockwise. Climbing into Taylor Canyon, the route will progressively ascend, alternating through exposed meadows and shaded tree stands. After some hiking, the route will redirect you west, up a set of switchbacks, gradually gaining a ridge. As you climb higher, views of the mountainous landscape will unfold before you—offering sights of countless ranges. From here, the route will curve south along the crest, maintaining the wonderful views.
Now gently descending, the scenic route will explore the sagebrush grasslands, meandering through the exposed landscape back to the parking lot.
