For the best experience at the falls, try to visit in late spring or after a good rain. They can sometimes dry up in the late summertime.
Although this hike is suitable for all skill levels, it’s not stroller-friendly. Dogs are permitted, but remember to keep them on leash, especially with the potential for horse traffic on this route.

Route Description for Coal Creek Falls via Nike Horse Trail
Coal Creek Falls is a small, beautiful waterfall accessed via an easy-moderate hike on the Nike Horse Trail. This route is suitable for all skill levels. Try to visit after a good rain to get the best experience at the falls.
There may be horse traffic on this trail, so keep dogs leashed and give riders the right of way whenever possible.
Begin from the trailhead in the parking loop. There are several trails that leave from the parking lot, and you’ll want to take the trail on your far right and then stay left immediately. There are two junctions near the beginning where you’ll stay right.
At the junction with the Cave Hole Trail, turn right. Then, take a left where the horse trail turns off from the Cave Hole Trail again. You’ll traverse a slope down to the creek valley, where the falls can be found at the water.
Don’t cross the stream unless you want to explore on another trail. From here, turn around and retrace your steps.
