Route Description for Granite Peak Trail
Immerse yourself in the high country along the Granite Peak Trail. This amazing adventure travels up to the summit of Granite Mountain that reveals epic views of the encompassing Trinity Alps and distant views of Mount Shasta. Note the terrain is extremely rocky and slippery when wet, so mind your footing and wear a sturdy pair of ankle bracing footwear—your ankles will thank you. If you are one of the few to head out in the winter months, the downloaded trail GPS and a pair of microspikes are necessary.
When your shoes are laced, and your water bottle is full, begin your hike along the Granite Peak Hike from the trailhead. Setting out from here, the Granite Peak Trail travels northwestwardly up the granite terrain. Navigating the path obstructed by fallen trees and granite outcrops, the trail will guide you up the vertiginous terrain. Take your time and take breaks as needed. As you near the mountain top, the path will lead you up a set of seemingly never-ending, tightly wound switchbacks up to the summit of Granite Peak.
From the summit, you will be granted panoramic vistas of the neighboring Trinity Alps and distant views of Mount Shasta. Marvel in the grandeur of the scenery, and when you are ready, carefully retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
