Route Description for Lover’s Leap Hike
Offering unparalleled views of Northern California’s mountainous landscape, this hike through the Shasta-Trinity National Forest is not for the faint of heart. Explore the lush woodlands, navigating granite outcrops and vertiginous terrain to the summit of the overlook. Surprisingly this route has remained fairly undiscovered, and we aren’t complaining! If you head out on a weekday morning, you will likely get to enjoy this route all to yourself! Note the path is not well signposted, so be sure to download the trail GPS.
Once your shoes are laced, and your camera is charged, begin your adventure along the Lover’s Leap Hike. Using the trail GPS, you will be guided north, gradually climbing into the forestlands. Mind your footing on the rocky and uneven terrain, enjoying the shade of the lush tree canopy along the way. Eventually, you will reach an intersection, veer left here, and you will be diverted onto a more primitive trail.
Hiking along the rocky ridge, the path will gently descend before demanding the navigation of vertiginous terrain up to the summit of Lover’s Leap. Marvel in the beauty of the encompassing landscape, including Mount Shasta commanding the skyline. When you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
Getting to the Lover’s Leap Hike Trailhead
Access to the trailhead is found off National Forest Development Road 40N08.
