Route Description for Indian Pools Trail
Is it a hot summer’s day? The Indian Pools Trail is an awesome adventure to a set of refreshing alpine pools along Big Creek. Hike the granite-lined path along the gurgling waters beneath the shade of mixed conifers. This amazing adventure is located just below China Peak, and the trailhead is located in the mountain resort, so the path is easily accessible. Note the path itself is not well-marked; instead, you will have to follow rock cairns, so we encourage you to use the trail GPS.
Setting out along the trailhead signposted for the Indian Pools, the Indian Pools Trail heads east along Big Creek. Note the creek may be dried in the late summer. Nevertheless, the views will impress. Hiking east, the path will gradually climb along the creek, which is adorned with charming cascades when the waters surge. Continue trekking through the looming granite walls dotted with evergreens. Minding your footing on the uneven terrain, you will eventually reach the Indian Pools.
On a warm day, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. Revel in the beauty of the granite corridor, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
