Route Description for Post Corral Meadows Trail
Explore the high country, wandering over boardwalks, between granite walls, and among diverse flora and fauna along this scenic route. The Post Corral Meadows Hike is a popular overnight adventure, but we prefer it as a fulfilling day hike—just make sure you head out early! Pack plenty of water and snacks to stay fueled and dress in layers, as the conditions here can change on a dime. Though not necessary, some prefer to have the trail GPS as backup! Note the initial segment of the hike shares a route will off-roaders, so it is important to be mindful of passers-by!
Setting out from the trailhead, the Post Corral Meadows Hike follows the Dusy Ershim OHV Route. This path will guide intrepid adventurers northeast over snowmelt streams through the woodlands. Not long after departing from the trailhead, you will confront an intersection. Here, veer right, and you will be diverted onto the Blackcap Trail. This path will guide you between the granite walls of Long Top Peak and Maxson Dome. There will be several intersecting routes; ignore these and maintain along the Blackcap Trail.
Continue trekking, and you will soon pass through Long Meadow before arriving in the Post Corral Meadows next to the Post Corral Creek. Admire the scene of the meadowlands flanked by the granite domes, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
