The Llyn Dulyn circular walk takes you deep into the remote wilds of Snowdonia without having to summit a mountain! A winding rural lane brings you to a valley flooded with light and surrounded by slopes, the imposing Carneddau crags to the west. Walk to the shores of Llyn Dulyn (maybe taking a dip if you’re brave!) and stop by the mountain shelter of Dulyn Bothy. Stroll back through the valley, crossing a river and enjoying the views at every step.

Route Description for Llyn Dulyn Circular Walk
From the car park, set off along a path bearing northwest. Cross through a stile and past a sheepfold. You’ll see your return path branching off to your right - keep going past this until your track does indeed bend right then back to the left as it works around the base of Clogwynyreryr. Continue ascending along the path, which turns to the north as you pass a ruin and brings you toward the northeast corner of Melynllyn Reservoir. An obvious path continues north to the shores of Llyn Dulyn.
You may find it hard to tear yourself away from the majestic views of the Carneddau rising steeply to the west, on the far side of the lake. Once you do, a footpath (fainter than your entry track, but still clear) leads you through the valley in a northeast direction. The Dulyn Bothy mountain shelter is quite close to the lake, one of the most remote in all of Wales. It’s worth a peek, or makes for a good break spot if the weather is unforgiving. Continue along the footpath, keeping the stream on your right, until you reach a small footbridge just below a dam. Cross the Afon Dulyn here, and the path quickly turns on a southern bearing past the abandoned Maeneira farm. Continue south until you reach the track that you came in on, leading back to the car park.
Getting to the Llyn Dulyn Circular Walk Trailhead
Getting to Llyn Dulyn and the Dulyn Bothy requires a significant drive up a twisting, narrow country lane. From the B5106 (running from Conwy to Betws-y-Coed), turn west on the lane just south of where the main road crosses the Afon Dulyn. After roughly 2.4 km, turn left at the junction and continue south. The road curves around the south shore of Llyn Coedty before continuing southwest to eventually arrive at the car park for Llyn Eigiau. This is where you’ll start the walk.
