Heron Trail
The Heron Trail is a 2.9 km lollipop hiking route in Powell River, BC that will take you from the Powell River Recreation Complex to the sands of Willingdon Beach by means of a scenic rainforest trail. Along the hike, you will experience that natural beauty of the West Coast temperate rainforest environment, as you hike past large cedars and small ferns on the way to the Sunshine Coast. With relatively flat terrain, scenic views, and a short overall distance, this hike is ideal for hikers of every skill level.

Route Description for Heron Trail
Hiking the Heron Trail is a fantastic option for an outdoor excursion if you are short on time and want to experience an amazing rainforest setting right in the heart of Powell River. The trail sets out from the parking area and enters into the dense cover of the forest, passing by the Powell River Recreation Complex on your right. As you make your way to the southwest, you will pass by an amazing variety of plant life, including large cedar trees, various species of wild mushroom, and an abundance of ferns scattered along the forest floor. Eventually, you will reach the southwestern tip of the trail near the Willingdon Beach Campground, where you will turn south and skirt alongside a mini golf course. Here, the trail will meet up with Harvie Avenue and follow it for a brief distance before re-entering the forest on the return part of the loop to the trailhead where you began.
Getting to the Heron Trail Trailhead
To reach the parking area for the Heron Trail from Powell River, head north on Joyce Avenue for 1.9 km and turn left onto Complex Road. In 170.0 km, you will arrive at the parking area next to the trailhead.
