Route Description for Oldshoremore Bay Circuit
The Oldshoremore Bay Circuit makes for a fun, entertaining adventure along the coast of the Highlands! Explore three sandy bays and tackle headlands for up-high views of the sea waves lapping the pristine shoreline below. As we mentioned above, this route is no walk in the park—it’s a walk along the coast, which means rougher conditions. Expect zero remnants of a path in some sections, making it key to download a GPS before going, a little scramble after Oldshoremore beach, technical headlands, and during high tide, you may not be able to walk along the beach. However, other than that, the Oldshoremore Bay Circuit stands out as a memorable coastal walk—especially for the more intrepid explorer.
From the car park, you’ll make your way to Oldshoremore beach and cross the beach to the far end, where a set of red rocks await a brief scramble. Go up these to reach a path. You can also go up pebbles and find a faint path leading you to the main trail. Next up? Polin beach. First, go over a small headland, where the coastline below boasts a stunning image. When you get to the beach, head to the far side and then start to ascend the next headland. Your next destination? Port Chaligaig. You’ll find a parking area and pier here! After this, be sure to stay on the main path as the faint sheep trails can go close to the cliff’s edge.
When the sand cloaking Sheigra appears, go toward the path by the sandstone rocks to your right. Continue through the campsite and follow a path going inland towards a cemetery. Go up the road before Sheigra and take a right to follow the road back to Oldshoremore. Go right to reach the back from the start!
