The Bohemia Mountain hike is a wonderful, albeit short, adventure in Umpqua National Forest that climbs to the summit of Bohemia Mountain. While out on the trail, you will steadily climb uphill to the summit viewpoint, before descending to explore an old gold mining town and the surrounding mines. Hikers should take note that the road leading up to the trailhead is fairly rough and is often covered in snow well into the summer; be sure to plan your hike accordingly.
Route Description for Bohemia Mountain Hike
For anyone who enjoys the great outdoors and is also fascinated with local history, the Bohemia Mountain Hike is the perfect trail to explore, as it blends beautiful mountain views with the chance to visit an old gold mining town.
Setting out from Sharps Creek Road, you will make your way to the southwest, passing by a pile of rocks to pick up the trailhead. Here, you will steadily gain elevation up the mountainside, before arriving at the summit of Bohemia Mountain, where you will enjoy sweeping views of the Cascades Range.
Heading back down the same trail, you will turn right at a junction in order to make your way southeast towards the Bohemia City ghost town. Eventually, you will come to a fork with another pile of rocks that has a trail on the left and one on the right. Both of these lead to the ghost town, but the one on the right is a bit easier to traverse.
At the next junction, heading left will take you to the ghost town, while taking the path on the right will lead you to an old gold mine. Both options are great to explore the mining history of the region if you have the time.
Once you have thoroughly explored the area, simply turn back along the trail to return to your vehicle.
