Maple Mountain Hike
The Maple Mountain trail is a 16.7 km lollipop hiking route that will take you on a forested route along the water’s edge to eventually arrive at the summit of Maple Mountain. From this scenic lookout, hikers will have an awesome sightline across the waters of Maple Bay. This route features a decent amount of elevation gain that is spread throughout the hike, so be prepared for a tough slog through some undulating terrain that will surely leave your legs a bit tired the next day.

Route Description for Maple Mountain Hike
The Maple Mountain Hike is a fun, if tiring route that will allow you to experience some breathtaking coastal scenery and a tranquil forest atmosphere. The trail sets out from the parking area and heads east through the thick, shady canopy of the forest along the edge of the water to provide some amazingly scenic views. From here, the route turns to the west and climbs sharply uphill towards the summit of Maple Mountain. Enjoy the breathtaking views across the haven of Maple Bay before continuing along the forested loop to the northwest. As you meander through the atmospheric setting of the forest, you will pass by small waterfalls and the charming waters of Rainsford Lake. Continuing on further down the trail will eventually bring you back to the trailhead where you began your journey.
Getting to the Maple Mountain Hike Trailhead
To reach the Maple Mountain trailhead from Crofton, head south on York Avenue for 600 m and continue straight onto Osborne Bay Road. After 850 m, turn left on Chilco Road and follow it for 700 m to arrive at the trailhead.
