Route Description for Dad’s Lake Trail
Indulge yourself in spellbinding views of the Towers of the Cirque and Continental Divide with a fraction of the typical effort required. The Dad’s Lake Trail is an epic excursion that explores dense woodlands abundant with wildflowers and wildlife, lush meadows, and shimmering lakes. While Dad’s Lake is usually just a rest stop on a long journey, this hike is incredible in and of itself. Just don’t forget to charge your camera, the scenery is quite photogenic! Note we encourage hikers to carry a can of bear spray when exploring the area.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Dad’s Lake Hike follows the Fremont Trail north, along Big Sandy River. Soon after your departure, you will reach an intersection, turn left here, and you will be diverted onto the Continental Divide Trail. Now traveling northwest, you will encounter another intersection and continue along the Continental Divide Trail. Wandering through dense woodlands, the path will eventually open to a vast, lush meadow that offers great views of the Wind River Range in the northeast.
Beyond this point, the terrain will become more exposed and rockier, passing Mirror Lake before ultimately arriving at Dad’s Lake. Marvel in the 360-degree views of the encompassing landscape; rest and rehydrate before beginning your return. When you are ready, retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
